Our Activities

We work with communities to implement projects that are demand driven and positively influence community development.

Recent activities: Protecting our land rights and improving access to safe water

Our communities are facing two very significant issues: access to traditional pastoral lands; and access to safe water both of which are making it difficult for our communities to sustain their way of life. EMAYO has been working with local people to find ways to reduce the impact of these problems and to raise awareness about their rights.

Future activities: Promoting women’s empowerment and increasing access to education for our children

When we conducted a study in 2006 on Maasai women’s literacy rates we found that 95% of the pastoral women in Kibirashi village couldn’t read or write. We also face the situation of having schools constructed far from our homes making the journey to school for all children very difficult. Our aims are to help increase the availability of adult education for our women; to support the construction of more classrooms closer to our communities; and to ensure local schools are properly equipped and can provide food for children who have traveled long distances to attend.
