Symphorosa Hangi has over thirty years of experience in teaching, training, administration, financial management and librarianship. She was a teacher in both government and private secondary schools in Tanzania and also managed library systems both in academic settings and in private sector training and community outreach settings.

In recent years Symphorosa has been involved with international development through professional and administrative positions with international NGOs. With Volunteer Service Overseas (VSO) Tanzania, she was a Program Support Officer overseeing the implementation and management of volunteer placements in Tanzania in the education sector. Later, with Education Development Centre (EDC) she served as Deputy Chief of Party for the Radio Instruction to Strengthen Education (RISE) project and the Zanzibar Teacher Upgrading by Radio (ZTUR) project. Both projects were funded through USAID and were implemented by EDC, a Washington, USA based INGO. Her responsibilities included conducting sensitization meetings in communities in Kilindi, Kiteto and Ngorongoro Districts to ensure opportunities for all eligible children to attend primary school; managing all training activities of instructional field staff, developing learning materials for use in training activities, liaising with district offices, and assisting the Chief of Party with project administration, including personnel and finance matters. She is currently working as consultant on Youth educational development in entrepreneurship in Dar es Salaam.

Symphorosa is a member of Tanzania Girl Guides Association (TGGA) executive Committee and a national trainer. She is also a Secretary General to the Upanga Church community. She holds a master’s degree in education management, bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and diploma in library science. Her native language is Kiswahili and she is also fluent in English.
