Cecilia is a dedicated researcher with extensive experience working at the intersection of biophysical and socioeconomic sciences to explore basic and applied research questions concerning ecology, conservation, management, planning, and sustainability of landscapes. With a strong background in ecological research and applied conservation, she has worked for over a decade with the Tanzania Wildlife Research institute (TAWIRI) contributing to biodiversity conservation, community livelihood and ecosystem management efforts across Tanzania.
She is committed to advancing participatory approaches that strengthen community resilience while safeguarding biodiversity, an experience that aligns closely with The Kesho Trust’s mission of linking communities and conservation to foster a sustainable future. Through her role on the Board, she seeks to strengthen collaborations, promote inclusive conservation initiatives, and support programs that inspire both present and future generations to value and protect their natural heritage.
Dr. Leweri has experience in Environmental & Natural Resources Management, Population/Landscape Ecology, Climate Change, Gender issues, Tourism Development, Land-based investments, Qualitative & Quantitative Research Methodologies, Tool Development, Data Collection (Qualitative and Quantitative), Statistical Data Analysis, Project Management, and Project Monitoring and Evaluation. She holds a PhD in Life Sciences and Bio – Engineering (LiSBE) with specialization in Biodiversity and Ecosystem Management from the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), Arusha, Tanzania; MSc in Wildlife Management from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), Morogoro, Tanzania; and B.Sc. Wildlife Management from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), Morogoro, Tanzania.
