Almatasia Camp is a unique concept – one where the community develops, operates and manages their own business to deliver community benefits. Unlike the typical investor concept that utilizes the land and resources of the communities to spin off benefits to the community after making their own profit, this model makes the community the owner, operator and beneficiary without involving outsiders. It is a concept that is hugely rewarding to see develop.
The purpose of Almatasia Camp is: to provide sensitive, economic and comfortable facilities for visitors in support of their learning about and engagement with the local Maasai communities.
Objectives:
- provide comfortable accommodation to visitors that is small scale, economic and easily operated and maintained and sensitive to the community culture and capacity;
- provide a base for cultural and environmental education and experiential programs; to facilitate promotion of the rights and aspirations of the Maasai community;
- provide support facilities for field research and school and university programs.
