Project Wrap up workshop – Carcross. Yukon
- representatives of Canadian partners, the Tanzania project coordinator, other interested groups and resource people attended the closing project workshop hosted by Carcross / Tagish First Nation in Carcross, Yukon
- the project team reviewed the results of the research and identified a plan for reporting and publishing of results
- discussions included building of partnerships and concepts for the subsequent proposal and third stage of SSHRC funding

Research Analysis Workshop
- community researchers, local Tanzania partner representatives met in Elerai to review and consolidate research results from Year 2
- prepared analysis summaries for subsequent review by the whole project team members at a subsequent workshop in Canada

Community-based Research
- implemented the Year 2 research program focusing on the following themes:
- work was carried out by community researchers from each of the villages in both study areas
- team members, Erik Val (community mapping – water and climate change themes) and Kate Herchak (youth theme) stayed behind after the tour to assist in the initial stages of the research

- itinerary included community engagement in Engaresero (an alternative to Enguserosambu due to security issues in the area) and in Elerai as well as travel through Serengeti / Ngorongoro between the two study areas

Preparations for the Project Team tour in Tanzania
- developed alternative itineraries that necessarily avoided the Loliondo area which remained unstable due to the land use conflict and violence which erupted in June
Preparatory Meetings in Elerai
- held meetings with the Elerai Village Council and elders of the community to review the results of the Year 1 research and to introduce and plan for the upcoming tour of the project team
Base Map Preparations for Water Research
- Erik Val and Brian Lewis prepared the base maps for the water use and management theme of the Year 2 research program in Elerai and Enguserosambu

- community researchers met in Arusha for training on the content and methods defined by the research plan

Graduate Student support (Tanzania)
- Julius Daniel was selected to undertake a graduate studies program at the University of Dar es Salaam with the support of the IKG project
- Julius began studies in GIS which would focus on mapping efforts in the Elerai study area of the project

Graduate student engagement
- Katelynne Herchak was selected to undertake a graduate studies program at UVic with the support of the IKG project
- Kate began her MA coursework in September with an intended focus on youth engagement and outlook in the local economy

Year 1 Activities Modified
- the Covid pandemic restricted international travel and so activities that had been originally planned for Year 1 of the project had to be modified and/or rescheduled
- specifically a project team study tour in Tanzania and the UVic / Kesho Trust Tanzania Field School had to be cancelled

- the project award was announced by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council in a letter to Dr. Crystal Tremblay, Principal Investigator
